I really don’t use this enough. Typetester is a really useful tool that is a font-tester, but oh so much more. It offers a few small extra’s but its the extra’s that as a designer, are so handy and worthwhile. Typetester is a nifty Ajax application that allows you not only to test your fonts for web usage, but more importantly to compare the fonts. You can choose a maximum of 3 fonts to compare from a provided list, or from the fonts on your own computer. The provided list of fonts are grouped by ‘Web Safe’, ‘Win Default’ and ‘Mac Default’ which is great for cross browser designing.
The Typetester is an online application for comparison of the fonts for the screen. It’s primary role is to make web designer’s life easier. As the new fonts are bundled into operating systems, the list of the common fonts will be updated.
The comparison functionality gives you a number of customization options. You can use the default latin text or specify your own test paragraph. You can control the font size, leading, alignment, tracking, decoration, spacing, color and background. Awesome. The generated comparisons show you all variations of bold, italics and small etc. Once you’re done comparing and you’ve chosen your ideal font setup, you can then generate the CSS for your fonts and copy it into your CSS file.
I like the fact that the tool hasn’t been ‘thrown’ together, but rather its been put together with web designers in mind. The design is sweet and as a whole the site does exactly what it’s intended for and it does it with much grace and ability. Great app.
