Photophlow

Photophlow is a fantastic app that incorporates Flickr among other sources with a instant messaging interface, allowing you and friends to share items with one another while discussing them.

This idea may seem simple, and like its just a way of chatting with some pictures added, but there is much more to it than you think, and a simple visit to that website to view the demo clip will show you that.

Photophlow allows you to add Flickr streams to its chat rooms, so you can discuss away. It also integrates with Twitter.

A view source shows both Prototype and Dojo under the hood, and the UI itself is quite rich. Comet is used for pushing the data to the client, and although many people assume it’s Flash (Flash is used for network communication and sound if available) it is Open Web all the way.

The fact that its open web, and not flash, means it will load up and work so much quicker than if it was flash, making your experience far more pleasant and also not requiring you to download dozens of plugins and applications just to get it working.

Photophlow allows you to search for images, easily share them amongst friends, view the full details of each item in a very pleasant on the eyes way and even allows you to search for images based on key words within the chats you have with friends. This is a very powerful tool and one that will prove to be invaluable to those who love sharing photographs and discussing them, aswell as the story behind the images with loved ones.
