Snacksby

snacksbyGranted, this is probably not really much of a business tool - unless you’re a snack-making chef, but Snacksby is a fun little web application nonetheless. Basically how it works is, you type in the ingredients of your fridge and/or kitchen cubboards and Snacksby then generates a list of delicious snacks that you can make based on the provided list of ingredients. Rocking! It doesn’t appear have much in the way of Ajax etc, but the site’s structure and purpose are well maintained by a simple design that lets you do the important stuff - like making sandwiches - without much fuss.

Recipes and ingredients are categorized with snacksonomies, which are tags like lowfat or vegetarian that help you find what you might like better and faster. Are you missing something? Snacksby can tell you what to do if you don’t have buttermilk or if you’d like a vegan substitute for eggs.

I like the feature whereby you can remove a recipe from your future search results. Once logged in, you can fine tune your search results to give you just the types of food that you enjoy. Vegans and vegetarians etc, can have their results filtered to see snacks that don’t have meat. Also a clever feature of their site are the user submissions. If you dig a user’s recipe, you can subscribe to his/her particular recipe feed. Nice.

As mentioned before, Snacksby is not much of a business tool, but a nifty little web application nonetheless.

    Such an amazing idea..
Reminds me of the technology they are working on for refrigerators where a computer in the fridge scans the rfid tags on the food items.

It tells you when the food is going to expire, compiles shopping lists based on recipes you feed it against ingredients it already has, and gives you recipe ideas based on what you have in stock..

I can’t wait but until then Snacksby lets you do the inventory work yourself but offers a neat tool to compile what you do have and tell you what you can make..

Not too much high end food recipes on the site which is disappointing now but could change in the future..

This idea really has potential, I think.
