It wasn’t purposefully planned this way, but WikkidApps‘ launch coincided nicely with the Webware Top 100 list being published and opened to voting. I’ve cast my vote in all the categories where I had some experience using at least 1 of the applications. It’s definitely a great means of creating an awareness of the incredible web applications found on the web today. I especially liked this summary on their site:
There’s a shift underway in how people use computers and the Internet. Every day more utility is being delivered over the Web. Full applications can now be run in a browser, accessible from any computer. Software? It’s no longer required. Software is becoming Webware.
That nicely summarizes this trend in web software..er, I mean webware. I’m confidant that this trend will continue. I can think of a host of applications that would be handy to have available. Unfortunately I don’t have the know-how, but if I’ve learnt anything from my time surfing the web, its that you’re hardly the ever the first to have a thought or cool idea. Its just about who brings it to fruition first.
On that deep note, I’ll send you on your way to go vote for your favorites on the Webware 100 Contest.
